Job Summary
The role holder will be responsible for directing the fiscal functions of the business in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and practices appropriate within the industry
Responsibilities
• Articulate financial strategies and ensure alignment with the organisation’s objectives
• Champion the implementation of the Finance department’s strategy ensuring alignment with corporate strategy and business goals
• Oversee the preparation of the department’s annual budget and monitor its implementation
• Provide leadership support and strategic direction in the execution of the department’s functions
• Continually review and assess the effectiveness of the department’s policies, procedures, processes, and IT systems with a view to identifying improvement opportunities
• Manage risks and returns on financial resources, constantly seeking to maximize shareholders’ wealth
• Ensure the development and implementation of finance and accounting policies, procedures, and processes in line with leading practices and accounting standards and the ongoing compliance to them
• Coordinate timely preparation of financial statements, ensuring the statements reflect the organisation’s financial position and comply with statutory and regulatory requirements
• Maintain an efficient and integrated accounting system with appropriate internal financial controls
• Ensure accounts receivable and accounts payable reconciliation activities are performed in a timely and accurate manner based on the agreed account reconciliation chart as shared by other relevant departments
• Coordinate the development of corporate budget, and the allocation/distribution of financial resources
• Develop and maintain strategic relationships with key organizations as well as other local and international financial institutions
• Coordinate monitoring of business performance against agreed plans, targets and budgets, partnering with the Managing Director and executive team to identify and take timely and appropriate action to address performance issues and/or capitalize on opportunities
• Develop and implement detailed cost management strategies to monitor and control costs organization-wide
• Monitor operating base costs and highlight factors impacting effective cost management, hence contributing towards achieving low-cost business environment
• Contribute to the planning and execution of transactions in the case of mergers, acquisitions, corporate restructuring, capital raising amongst others to deliver business benefits
• Develop effective tax planning strategies and oversee the filing of all tax returns
• Coordinate investor relations activities including preparation of investor communications such as presentations and press releases
• Authorize expenditure/transactions in line with approved authority limits
• Supervise the training, motivation and performance management of finance department staff
Requirements
• First degree in Finance, Accounting or any related discipline
• Professional qualification and Master’s degree in accounting, business or business-related field is preferred
• Minimum of 12 years’ experience in Finance
• Extensive knowledge of MS Office tools and of financial and accounting principles, including in-depth understanding of financial reporting standards
• Deep awareness and understanding of the financial industry (local and global) with tracked experience in financial management, planning, and analysis
